Coin Tavern Coins
Faction guides, gem notes, and archetypes for every flip in your deck
Coin Tavern is a single-player Steam roguelike deck-builder from Woven Dream Isle where you pay rising tavern debt by flipping a personal coin bag each stage. Every coin belongs to one of four factions—Humans, Monsters, Beasts, or Machines—and the full release vision targets roughly 150 coins with cross-faction combos that can snowball within a handful of turns. This hub collects faction guides, gem notes, and the archetype vocabulary you need before diving into tier lists or a planned run.
If you are new to the loop, start with How to Play for stage targets, flip limits, and shop timing. Once you understand debt checks, return here to pick a faction engine, then cross-check priorities on the Coins Tier List and sketch ideas in the Deck Planner.
How coins fit the run loop
Each stage gives you a fixed number of flip rounds and a money target you must hit before the creditor collects. At the start of a stage, only a slice of your bag—commonly around twenty coins—is active on the field, and the board also caps how many coins can sit face-up at once. Every round you toss eligible coins; both heads and tails pay based on each coin’s face value, while pattern-side and number-side effects trigger only when that side lands up.
Between rounds you usually pick one new coin to add to your comb pile, and you can spend hammers to remove dead weight. Surplus earnings often carry forward inside the same stage, so early rounds are setup and late rounds are payoff—exactly where faction synergies matter. After you clear debt, tickets fund a relic shop covered in the Relics Hub.
The four factions at a glance
| Faction | Fantasy | Common archetypes | Best when you want… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Humans | Merchants, crews, tavern folk | Economy coins, crew scaling, risky plunder | Steady scaling and flexible mid-game pivots |
| Monsters | Slimes, undead, cursed things | Multipliers, spawn chains, destroy payouts | Huge burst turns after setup |
| Beasts | Animals, eggs, flocks | Token breeding, jump enablers, flock cleanup | Compounding tokens and re-flip chains |
| Machines | Chests, metals, gadgets | Copper→gold ladders, pattern merges, mass jumps | Predictable value growth and board control |
None of these factions is siloed. Demo footage and early access discussion consistently show cross-faction runs: a Machine merge engine feeding Beast jump chains, or Human economy coins paying for Monster destroy loops. The How to Combo guide walks through sequencing those overlaps without forcing a single “correct” build.
Archetypes you will see in every faction
Rather than memorising dozens of individual coin names, think in roles:
- Value bodies — high face value with simple triggers; anchor debt math when effects whiff.
- Jump enablers — make another coin flip again, often the fastest way to double-trigger pattern effects.
- Multipliers — scale with duplicate types, nearby tags, or counts on the field; common in Monster and Human engines.
- Spawn / token makers — fish, eggs, bees, or basic tokens that other coins consume or count.
- Destroy / remove effects — trade board presence for lump sums or upgrades; pair with relics that reward destruction.
- Economy coins — generate basic copper, silver, or gold tokens that merge or merge-adjacent effects love.
- Self-destruct timers — limited-use coins that must pay off before they remove themselves.
When a draft offer does not clearly fit a role, ask whether it advances your next debt check or only your best-case fantasy turn. Beginner Tips stress that consistency beats ceiling during the first few clears.
Gems versus coins and relics
Gems are a separate progression layer—about eight of sixteen appeared in the demo— that modify rules across multiple stages rather than flipping individually. They complement faction coins and stage relics; see the dedicated Gems guide for how they differ from shop relic picks.
Where to go next
- Pick a faction focus: Humans, Monsters, Beasts, or Machines.
- Compare power bands on the Coins Tier List.
- Layer Relic Synergies once your coin core is defined.
- Browse Best Builds for full-run examples that mix factions deliberately.
Coin Tavern shipped on 23 July 2026 on Steam; counts and balance will shift with patches, so treat tier placements as living notes rather than permanent verdicts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many coins are in Coin Tavern?
The full vision is roughly **150 coins**. The public demo included about ninety, so this wiki focuses on archetypes and faction patterns that stay useful even as new coins ship.
Do I have to commit to one faction per run?
No. Shops and rewards offer mixed factions. Strong runs often pair a primary engine—such as Beast tokens or Machine metals—with a secondary splash for jump or economy support.
What is the fastest way to learn coin roles?
Play one run aiming for a single archetype—multipliers, spawns, or destroy payouts—then read the matching faction page and compare your draft choices to the Coins Tier List.
Where do gems fit compared with relics?
Relics are picked between stages with tickets after you clear debt. Gems modify broader rules across the run. See Gems and Relics Overview for the split.
